From Scilicet.com:

The journal Acheronta Movebo is welcoming submissions for its first edition, to be released by the end of 2013.

Acheronta Movebo is a platform for thinking the productive tension between the philosophies of Slavoj Žižek and Alain Badiou. Acknowledging that these proper names mark two different – and, ultimately, incompatible – ways of conceiving the relation between ideas and ideology, between subject and structure, we are looking for texts which investigate this incommensurability rather than attempt to fixate or decide it.

In order to promote a veritable confrontation between these two philosophers, Acheronta Movebo structures its space in accordance to this tension – therefore, submissions can be addressed to two main sections, each further divided into more specific sub-sections:

(1) Rings: philosophy, psychoanalysis and ideology critique:

In accordance to the basic strategy of Žižek’s philosophical project (Žižek, 2008 [1991], p.2), the first section of Acheronta Movebo is organized in three “borromeanly linked” sub-sections: psychoanalysis, ideology critique and philosophy. Submissions addressed to any of these three fields should privilege one of the links, but also investigate its connections with the other two. It is important to note that this structure invites Žižekian speculations, rather than texts about Žižek – it is a matter of putting a certain philosophical strategy to work, rather than to question it from an uncompromising distance.

(2) Conditions: art, love, politics and science:

Following the distinction proposed by Badiou between philosophy and its conditions (Badiou, 1999 [1989] p.33), the second section of the journal is divided into four sub-sections: art, love, politics and science. In accordance with Badiou’s conception, submissions to any of these four fields should not treat them as objects of philosophy – constituting themselves as texts on “philosophy of science”, “philosophy of art” and so on – but rather look to highlight how the immanent thought of each field already mobilizes, in its own right, speculative categories in order to capture their respective novelties. For this section, we welcome two types of contributions: (a) short didactic texts, which seek to transmit how art, love, science and politics think on their own by focusing on the presentation of fragments of these different thoughts through the analysis, for example, of mathematical proofs, political conjunctures, love stories or artistic movements; (b) translations of previously unavailable texts produced from within any of these four conditions.

Submissions to any of the three sections under the “borromean link” should be original contributions and should have at least 6.000 words, whereas submissions to the “conditions” should be considerably shorter – up to 6.000 words – and should highlight the originality intrinsic to the respective “generic procedure” with which it concerns itself. For further information on the format of the submissions and peer review process, please refer to the “author guidelines” at acheronta.scilicet.com.

Finally, it is crucial to note that Acheronta Movebo, by following Žižek and Badiou, also assumes a commitment to follow Jacques Lacan. Because of this, we evoke for ourselves the structuring principle used by the École Freudienne de Paris in its short-lived journal, Scilicet – namely, to publish all of our texts anonymously, revealing the name of the contributors in an alphabetical list, separate from the texts themselves.

Submissions should be sent to rings@scilicet.com or conditions@scilicet.com, by November 1st.
