This October marks the 50th anniversary of the Herbert Marcuse’s “One-Dimensional Man: Studies in the Ideology of Advanced Industrial Society,” and to celebrate Brandeis University is hosting an incredible conference October 1-2.
“One-Dimensional Man” argues against the social repression inherent in industrial societies, both capitalist and communist, and notes the rise of “one-dimensional thinking” to shut out systemic criticism.
Last year, Brandeis’ Patrcik Gamsby discovered manuscripts of “One-Dimensional Man” that shed new light on the books genesis. Gamsby will present his finding during the conference.
