Earlier we reported that Alabama may have accidentally passed a resolution honoring critical theorist, activist and Vice Presidential candidate for the Communist Party Angela Davis.
Now, Rep. Mac McCutcheon has vowed never again. The Montgomery Advertiser reports new committee rules that employ groundbreaking technology like Google to vet candidates for awards and honors:
Rep. Mac McCutcheon, R-Huntsville, said he has instructed rules committee staff to research the names of those honored in resolutions of congratulations, commendation or sympathy prior to the resolutions being voted on en masse by the body.“We’ve just added another element of scrutiny for each one that comes in,” he said. “If there’s a name involved, we’ve Googled the name, checked the name and made sure we have a little bit of history.”
