In this 8-Bit Philosophy, Michel Foucault’s work in “The History of Sexuality: Volume 1” is explored. Foucault argues that the Christian confessional has been diffused through society, and is a primary way in which power operates. “We have become a confessing society,” Foucault argued, noting that what was once the realm of priests has since spread to doctors, teachers and families. The goal of it all, for Foucault, is an injunction to tell the story of an “inner truth,” a narrative of who we really are.
