In this video from 2012, Cornel West and Simon Critchley discuss religion, politics, violence and Critchley’s book “”Faith of the Faithless.”
“The left has also easily ceded the ground, the religious ground, to the right,” Critchley argues. This ground, for Critchley, needs to be regained.
Critchley asks: “Can there a be a political faith that would be neither be a right wing distortion of Christianity nor a liberal deism?” The answer, for him, is a “faith of the faithless”
“Faith is not a belief in some metaphysical entity. It is rather a lived subjective commitment to what I call an infinite demand.”
